“We Are Better Together”
For too long, people in Alabama’s Black Belt have been unable to access the digital resources that the majority of Americans leverage to prosper and thrive. Now we have the chance to deliver that access and transform countless lives in our communities.
The Federal government is providing unprecedented funding for broadband internet infrastructure expansion in the State of Alabama. President Biden’s intent is that it is distributed to unserved and underserved communities.
Historically, our Black Belt region has been squeezed out when federal funds are distributed, keeping our communities in poverty and decline while more populous areas of the state get a boost. To give our region a strong, unified voice in the conversation about how broadband funds will be distributed in Alabama, The Elmore Bolling Initiative and the South Central Alabama Broadband Cooperative District have created the Black Belt Digital Equity and Inclusion Coalition (BDEIC). Our motto is “We are better together.” BDEIC will amplify efforts to improve digital access for our communities. We are seeking “community champions” like yourself. Please consider joining our grassroots movement.
