GetWiredAlabama® is a public-private partnership advancing high-speed broadband infrastructure across South Central Alabama and the traditional Black Belt through a community-focused, future-ready network.
GetWiredAlabama® is a public/private partnership of the South Central Alabama Broadband Cooperative District (SCABCD), a Special Purpose Alabama Capital Improvement District made up of various low wealth government jurisdictions incorporated under a special legislative act during its 2000 legislative session.
Its purpose is to own and manage a telecommunication infrastructure that, through an integrated fiber optic and wireless network, will provide high speed connection to every home, business, and governmental agency in South Central Alabama and the traditional Black Belt Region of Alabama.
Created through a special legislative act codified in the Code of Alabama 1975 as amended at Chapter 11 Section 99B, the South Central Alabama Broadband Cooperative District is governed by a Board of Directors selected from the membership counties and municipalities.
GetWiredAlabama® next generation high-speed broadband network is an open access network that lets you choose your own service providers so you are not limited to just one option.
The connection to your home is also yours alone, helping deliver strong and dependable performance for households and businesses alike.
Omnipoint Technology Partners, LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company, is helping develop a community-owned, privately operated, service provider neutral broadband infrastructure that delivers direct fiber-based connectivity to community anchor institutions, households, and businesses.
The vision spans a seventeen-county area of South Central Alabama, the traditional Black Belt, and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
Omnipoint Technology Inc., a Certified Minority Business, brings together a best-in-class team with more than 150 years of combined experience in the telecommunications industry consisting of innovative technology collaborators who are best-in-class.
Omnipoint utilizes cutting edge and cost-effective fixed LTE and 5G technology, providing wireless broadband internet services, including Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephones and Internet Protocol television (IPTV), to primarily remote, rural, and strategic urban areas.
The company targets areas that have no options or high-cost options with slow internet speeds, and focuses on remote and rural areas as well as municipalities, public safety entities, and schools.
Learn more about Omnipoint’s role in helping expand broadband access and support community-driven connectivity across underserved communities in Alabama.
The network is designed so residents and businesses are not restricted to only one provider option.
Home and business connections are built for strong performance without common shared-speed limitations.
The network is structured to integrate new technologies as they are developed and minimize long-term obsolescence.
GWA Network can provide a minimum of 250Mbps connection to every home and up to 100Gbps connection to businesses. These connection speeds are base speeds that can increase according to individual needs.
This makes the network suitable for long-term residential, educational, commercial, and public sector growth.
GetWiredAlabama® is structured to integrate new technology as it is developed in the future, minimizing the risk of obsolescence and allowing for increased capabilities.
GWA Network is also compatible with wireless connections where necessary or requested.
GetWiredAlabama® is creating stronger digital access through community-centered broadband infrastructure, public-private collaboration, and scalable service options for the region.
The mission of the South Central Alabama Broadband Cooperative District, SCABCD, is to create a viable broadband utility .
